A LITTLE PLAN / FREE TO TRY

Halloween together.
Even from there.

Fifteen minutes, two different places, one slightly ridiculous date. Open your usual video call. The whole plan is right here.

Before you call

Find one everyday object you can turn into a tiny monster. Keep this page open and have your call’s chat handy for the last round. The times are a loose plan, so linger if you’re having fun.

010–3 minutes
ONE OBJECT. ONE MONSTER.

The tiny monster contest

  1. Each find one object within reach. A scarf, a mug or a pair of sunglasses will do.
  2. Give it a monster name. You each have 30 seconds to make the case for your creature.
  3. Award a completely unnecessary title: best entrance, most suspicious accessory or least convincing vampire.
An entirely optional character

“Meet Count Decaf. He only haunts before 9 a.m.”

023–8 minutes
TAKE TURNS. KEEP THE STRANGE BITS.

The story neither of you planned

  1. Start with the line below. Then take turns adding one sentence to the story.
  2. Play four rounds: one sentence from each of you per round, eight sentences in all. Let your partner’s sentence stand, even if it sends the story somewhere ridiculous.
  3. After your eight sentences, give your ghost an ending together. Funny counts as spooky tonight.
Your opening line

“You swore the spare chair was empty.”

038–13 minutes
FIVE QUESTIONS. ONE GUESS.

Room detective

  1. Secretly choose an ordinary object in your room. Keep it off camera for now.
  2. Your partner gets five yes-or-no questions and one final guess. Try questions like: can you wear it, is it bigger than your hand, or have I seen it before?
  3. Reveal the object, then swap roles. The aim is a good guess, not an impossible trick.
A question to get you started

“Is it something you used today?”

0413–15 minutes
TYPE IT. WAIT. SEND TOGETHER.

A note for next Halloween

  1. Each finish the sentence below in your call’s chat, but don’t send it yet.
  2. Count down from three and hit send together. Read your answers out loud.
  3. Save a screenshot for yourselves if you both want one. You have next year’s opening line.
Your opening line

“Next Halloween, I hope we…”

That’s your date. Keep the good bits.

Try it again with a new monster, a different object and a fresh first sentence. This plan is free to use and share. No email or purchase needed.
